What is a heart health assessment?

A heart health assessment uses various tests to determine your risk of heart disease. After the assessment, the LiveMed team develops a custom care plan emphasizing good nutrition, regular exercise, and healthy lifestyle changes to prevent problems like high blood pressure (hypertension) and high cholesterol.

What types of problems can a heart health assessment identify?

At LiveMed, the team uses heart health assessments to identify various cardiovascular problems, including:

  • Atherosclerosis (buildup of plaque in the arteries)
  • Coronary artery disease
  • Heart attack
  • Heart failure

Heart health assessments can also determine your risk of a stroke.

What does a heart health assessment involve?

At LiveMed, a heart health assessment features several steps, including:

Physical exam

Your LiveMed provider reviews your health charts and asks about your lifestyle, including how often you exercise, if you smoke or drink alcohol, and the type of foods you eat. Next, they complete a physical exam, listen to your heartbeat, and order diagnostic imaging, like an ultrasound or an echocardiogram.

Lab testing

Lab testing provides a quick and effective way to gain insights into your health by analyzing samples of your blood or urine.

Several lab tests can identify underlying heart problems, including lipid panels and troponin blood tests. A lipid panel measures the number of fats (lipids) in your blood, while a troponin test looks for troponin. Troponin is a protein released into your bloodstream when your heart has damage.

Treatment recommendations

If your LiveMed provider determines you’re at risk of heart disease, they develop a customized treatment plan. Typically, that includes a combination of prescription medications, regular exercise, and a nutritious diet.

Routine checkups

There’s no cure for heart disease, but routine checkups can prevent it from worsening and ease uncomfortable symptoms. The team at LiveMed manages most chronic heart problems, but if you need more specialized care, they can refer you to a nearby cardiologist.

How much does a heart health assessment cost?

At LiveMed, a heart health assessment costs $79.99 for the initial consultation. Subsequent follow-up visits cost $49.00.
